BookShark Science Level A with Virtual Access

I have always been very intrigued by BookShark. As a book lover, I appreciate the literature-based approach to homeschooling that BookShark uses. BookShark uses a variety of educational resources spanning fiction, nonfiction, bibliographies, picture books, hands-on experiments, and much more to deliver an education that goes beyond the textbook.

Best of all, BookShark does all the planning for you.  They provide a 36-week, 4-day schedule that lays out exactly what you should read and teach each day.   Which is a huge time saver and allows me to spend less time planning and more time engaging with my children.

I received digital access to this product as well as BookShark Science Level A in exchange for my honest thoughts. This post contains affiliate links.

BookShark Virtual

The virtual option of BookShark is not meant to replace what everyone has come to love about the literature-based curriculum.  It does not replace the physical books as these physical books are the key to the BookShark program.  It is meant to allow students to be more independent and to allow parents/teachers to have more automated tracking and customization of the curriculum.

BookShark Virtual online platform gives the students access to their reading schedules, to view Story Maps, allows them to take assessments, and instant auto-grading (another HUGE WIN for a mom of three littles). The virtual online platform also gives the parent/teacher the ability to track and review each student’s work and customize the assessments to meet the needs of each individual homeschool.

As of the time I am writing this you can go to the BookShark website to try BookShark Virtual before you buy it.  BookShark allows you to create an account and sample the first week of every BookShark online course.  AMAZING!

I also found that as much as I love the BookShark Instructor’s Guide, it is huge and inconvenient to take with us if I need to homeschool somewhere other than home.  With BookShark Virtual, I can access the Instructor’s Guide from my phone!! This is where we utilized BookShark Virtual the most (outside of my daughter completing the assessments).

BookShark even thought of record-keeping and made BookShark Virtual a breeze for record-keeping and grading.  The grading is done almost completely automatically and the parent can export the grade book and student reports directly to excel for easy and painless recordkeeping

BookShark Virtual Subjects

We used BookShark Virtual with our Science Level A, but currently, BookShark has most of the core subjects available for BookShark Virtual access:

  • English
  • History
  • Science
  • Math-U-See

My Thoughts

So far, we are really enjoying BookShark Science Level A.  I am loving that they make figuring out what we should read in our homeschool a breeze by providing all the items in a perfectly bundled level kit.  It takes so much of the work off my plate to know that BookShark has taken the time and research to put together educationally sound units that fit easily into our homeschool.

My daughter and I really enjoyed BookShark Virtual access because once we finished the reading and any activities for the day, she would sign into my iPad and complete her assessments through BookShark Virtual. This made it easier on me since later all I would need to do is go in and review her assignment. I wouldn’t need to take the time to grade each individual assessment. As a mom of three young kiddos, my time is better spent with my kiddos than grading worksheets and I love that BookShark has thought of that and created BookShark Virtual to provide ease of use to the BookShark curriculum.

Check out BookShark here if you think BookShark Virtual might be a good fit for your family.
